This Starling

My vlogging has been so therapeutic, and so far this blog has been too.  It feels wonderful to have a place where all of the different strands of my life can come together.  It’s also intimidating, because that means that I have to take ownership of every strand of my life for every audience (I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how being a woman can make this especially difficult, and I’ll link an especially well-articulated essay below).  I’ve reached the point where that challenge feels invigorating rather than intimidating though, which also feels pretty awesome.

Here’s my very first vlog (I’ve gotten way better at them by now, I think/hope), which explains my choice of *This Starling*.

This Starling has so much meaning for me.  I do fluctuate between spirit animals: sometimes I’m a badger, sometimes I’m a vixen, and sometimes I’m a starling.  If nothing else, I’m complicated.  Aren’t we all?  Though I do prefer to think that my INFJ-ness gives me a little extra mystery. 😉  Speaking of, I recently came across a fantastic website, INFJoe.  He has the BEST INJF comics.  Here’s one of my favorites:

Claire Vaye Watkins’ essay “On Pandering” was eye-opening for me.

A sample: “Let us use our words and our gazes to make the invisible visible. Let us tell the truth.

Let us, each of us, write things that are uncategorizable, rather than something that panders to and condones and codifies those categories.”
